This New Makeup Line At Target Is SO GOOD And It’s Made By A Very High End Company So We’re Not Entirely Surprised
Hint: it’s Merit
by The Candidly Team
We have passionately extolled the brilliance of Merit—their smartly designed little blush balms, their one-and-done foundation/concealer stick, and their scrumptious soft-as-cashmere face cream.
And so when we heard the founder of Merit, Katherine Power, was adding makeup to her Versed line at Target, we raced to buy every, single product in what can only be described as a frenzy.
And we have news.
It’s all very, very good.
Some pieces are better than others, but we’ll get into all those details. Swatches of all products below. Because the one nightmarish thing about shopping drugstore is no testers. So we do what we can.
Let’s go.

3. Skin Solution Serum Concealer
If you are over 40 (like us) you must be using a serum concealer. You can spend upwards of $80 on such a product, but $15 seems smarter doesn’t it? The tiniest dab banished our redness and darkness, and because it’s a serum, it didn’t exacerbate any fine lines. We admit, choosing the perfect color without a tester is a semi-nightmare, but remember that Target will fully refund you on all products, even used, for a full 90 days with a receipt. Here’s the color 5N, and at the bottom of the article we’ll show you on of us in an entire face of Versed makeup if it helps your color choices:
Price: $15
4. Cloud Wrap Lip Recovery Mask & Cloud Polish Exfoliating Lip Scrub
Technically this is in their skincare category but we had to mention it because it’s so good! Listen, you must must, must use a lip scrub in your routine. A dry, cracked lip is just so unappealing and painful and a scrub is the antidote. We’ve tried more expensive versions and this one is just as lovely. We use the lip mask specifically overnight (it’s too thick for daytime) and our lips emerge from our slumber like two tiny perfect plump pillows.
Price: $14 for each
5. Warm Dimension Bronzer Stick
We nestled our #1 favorite product into the middle here because we felt it was the only way you’d definitely see it. This bronzing stick is slightly reminiscent of the Merit bronzing stick in that they’re both highly sheer and impossible to mess up. You can scribble it all over your face in the spots where the sun hits (cheekbones, temples, top of nose, hairline) and haphazardly blend with fingers or a brush, and you will look perfectly sunkissed and not at all makeuppy. Here it is in the color August:
Price: $15
6. Stay Liquid Eye Shadow
We’ll be honest with you. We’re not big eyeshadow fans. But this kind of creamy, blurring type that dries down to a matte finish is the type we like. A tiny dot on the lid can sheer out to a lovely wash of color—and because there’s caffeine in the formula, it helps to de-puff. We’ve also been known to dab some on the upper or lower lash line, and blend out with a little brush—all day, no-smudge, semi-shimmery eyeliner. Here’s the color poetic:
Price: $14
7. Mood Lighting Glow Drops
We didn’t swatch this because it contains almond oil (shout out to any of our tree nut-anaphylaxis sufferers) but the formula looks gorgeous and glowy, but not too shimmery. We typically use products like this by dropping a few blobs into our moisturizer and rubbing it all over the face and neck—this gives the most natural effect with no streaks or weirdness. Here’s the color (non swatched, sorry) in sheer golden:
And here’s an official swatch from their site of both shades:
Price: $18
8. Skin Solution Multi-Serum Skin Tint Foundation - SPF 40
Another serum-based product—yay! Incredibly lightweight, blurring, doesn’t sink into lines, makes skin looks supple, not shiny or matte just sort of perfectly in between and skin like, and has spf 40. Soooo perfect? Again with the choosing of a color, but if you’re ordering online, just get the 2 closest colors to you and try them on at home in the daylight. Then keep the one you love and return the other. OR do what we do and always have a slightly darker tint on hand for the warmer months. It’s definitely more coverage than a sheer tint, but doesn’t look makeuppy like full foundation. We love it. Here it is in the color 7c:
9. Cashmere Color Smoothing Lip Blush
Ok, we lied. This is actually our favorite product. It’s called a LIP BLUSH and that’s just so accurate. It gives that blotted, your-lips-but-better hazy look, and never looks like oh she’s wearing lipstick. Our favorite color is Lounge, but we loved the cashmere-soft formula so much we’re going to buy more colors. Here it is on our hand. It’s very very light, as it should be for this kind of product:
And here it is on 3 staggeringly beautiful models with perfect lips. But we promise it’s for gorj on us real women, too:
Price: $11
And as promised, a full face of Versed makeup, in the wild.
